Watchdog runs next to your agents and reads their logs. It flags missing heartbeats, runaway spend, stuck loops, and leaked secrets — and tells you in plain English. It observes and alerts; it never controls your agents by default. Free and MIT licensed. Runs on your own machine, no account, no dependencies.

The .zip is the full source with examples and tests. The .whl (“wheel”) is the same package in pip’s install format — run pip install watchdog_ultrec-0.1.0-py3-none-any.whl.

Heartbeat

Flags any agent that has gone quiet longer than you allow — or never checked in at all.

Spend

Catches a single call that costs far more than usual, and any agent whose total passes your cap.

Loops

Spots an agent repeating the same action over and over without making progress.

Secrets

Flags API keys, private keys, and passwords showing up in agent output. Reports show them redacted.

How it works

1 · Point it at logs

JSONL event files or plain log lines from your agents. One small config file (JSON, or YAML if you like).

2 · Rule checks

Every check is deterministic: same logs, same results. No AI needed to raise an alert.

3 · Incident report

A console summary plus an optional markdown report you can read, keep, or share.

Off by default: optional AI summaries (placeholder in v0.1.0) and a pause hook that only writes a pause file your own system can choose to honor. Watchdog never stops or edits an agent on its own.

Install and run the demo. It watches a deliberately misbehaving sample agent in a temporary folder — nothing leaves your machine.
